The Itinerary
Day 1 | Ulaanbaatar City
Welcome to Mongolia-the Country of Eternal Blue Sky and the land of Nomads. Upon your arrival at Chinggis Khaan Airport, Laguna Stella Team will be waiting to welcome you!
Transfer to the hotel centrally located in downtown Ulaanbaatar and enjoy some walking chill-out around Sukhbaatar Square, the very center of Ulaanbaatar. After having dinner at a restaurant, stay overnight at your hotel.
Day 2 | Yol (Lammergeier) Valley
After early breakfast, take a domestic flight (approximately 2 hours) to Dalanzadgad town. Upon your arrival, head to your Ger camp. After breakfast, visit Yoliin Am, the Vulture’s Valley, famous for its unusual rock formations and where ice regularly stays frozen during summer and often to very high heights. We will also have time to visit the local museum near the valley en route. (We can also save Yol Valley for the next morning just before heading to Khongor sand dunes)
Day 3 | Khongor Sand Dunes
After morning chill-out at the camp, our journey will head to Khongor Sand dunes to the southwest. The driving takes around 4 hours to reach the destination. Once we are at our camp near the sand dunes, we can relax and have short hiking around the sand dunes to observe the sunset in the Gobi Desert. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 | Khongor Sand Dunes (Camel Trekking)
In the morning a short transfer to Khongor Sand Dunes, also known as Khongoriin Els, the highest dunes of the Gobi region of Mongolia.
Join our camel trekking with our local guide, who will take you deeper into the sand dunes on Mongolian two-humped camels. These camels are very comfortable to ride on due to their relaxed and gentle nature. Sitting comfortably between their two humps, you will be shown by your camel guide how to best ride these camels so you can get the most from your excursion around the sand dunes.
Day 5 | “Bayanzag” The Flaming Cliffs
Today, our journey continues to Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming cliffs, where archeologists discovered and reconstructed hundreds of complete skeletons of dinosaurs that crowded this territory over 70 million years ago. The 1920s expeditions to Bayanzag by American paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews made important discoveries and brought the first-known fossil dinosaur eggs, including specimens of Velociraptor, to museums. The rock gives off a suitably glowing orange color and seen in the light of this vast, ancient, silent landscape, makes for a very special and memorable experience.
Day 6 | Ongi Temple & Resort
After breakfast, we depart to Ongi Temple ruin, an ancient Buddhist temple complex that was totally destroyed during the 1930s, but with enchanting ruins to visit. During today’s excursion, the total landscape shift from the Gobi plains to the semi-desert without limits. Enjoy your evening at Ongi camp.
Day 7 | Erdene Zuu Monastery and Kharakorum
Departure to Khangai-Kheer (steppe and mountain region) and an excursion to Erdene Zuu Monastery and the ruins of the Karakorum, the 12th Century capital of the Mongol Empire, the largest contiguous empire in history.
Enclosed by a quadrilateral of imposing walls surmounted by 108 white Tibetan chortens, Erdene Zuu Monastery was one of the greatest centers of Lamaist Buddhism thought outside of Tibet. Erected in the 16th century, the most ancient of the Mongolian monasteries housed inside the city walls one hundred temples that were largely destroyed in the 1930s. Enjoy the sight around the Orkhon River at your camp and stay overnight.
Day 8 | Khustai Nuruu National Park
Our journey continues to Khustai Nuruu National park which is home to Przewalski’s Horse or wild horses and many rare species as well as historical heritages. The driving takes around 3 hours with a spectacular view of the Mongolian grasslands of Khangai-Steppe region of Bulgan Province. Our lunch is served at another tour camp at Khugnu Khan National park, which has also great scenery in the midst of rocky mountains. By the afternoon we reach our camp in Khustai National Park. Shortly after/before dinner, we drive up to Khustai mountains to observe Przewalski’s horses on their natural pastures.
Enjoy your dinner and stay overnight.
Day 9 | Ulaanbaatar city
After breakfast, we drive to Ulaanbaatar. Once we check in to our hotel, the time is for your leisure. You can have some walking around the city center and enjoy your time exploring the city.
Day 10 | Ulaanbaatar discovery

After that, we also visit the Mongolian State Department store and Goyo Cashmere as the country is well known for its fine and quality cashmere products.
